Quality Technician Lead


Our Quality Technicians works with the Quality Manager in coordinating all activities related to quality.  


Primary Responsibilities are, but not limited to the following.

  • Signs off on all printing/cutting/finishing make-readies prior to production run
  • Random quality checks during production runs
  • Responsible for reviewing production paperwork
  • Assist with mid month AIB audit
  • Assist with sorting of cartons as required
  • Retrieves job jacket, purges paperwork post production, and files appropriately
  • Operates and maintains carton testing equipment and label machine
  • Makes case/pallet labels as required
  • Demonstrates tasks to temps and other manufacturing personnel
  • Trains employees on quality standards
  • Comply with safety regulations
  • Comply with company rules and regulations
  • Perform related tasks as assigned
  • Audit Corrective/Preventative Actions and production process for compliance to Quality Management System
  • Primary Level 1 responsibilities, in addition to those listed above;
    • Audit CTQ, RTQ data
    • Approve and audit quality of production set ups
    • Communicate plant quality issues
    • Oversee Quarantine functions on shift
    • Training employees on SOP’s related to CI and Quality
    • Pulling required customer samples
  • Primary Level III responsibilities, in addition to those listed above;
    • All the functions of QA Tech II
    • Participation in CI Teams (A3, Lean, Kaizen, Safety, GMP)
    • Data entry and reports
    • Performing and participating in Gage R&R and MSA’s
    • Participate in customer visits as a Quality Ambassador
  • Primary Level IV responsibilities, in addition to those listed above;
    • All the functions of QA Tech III
    • Conduct a wide variety of testing of cartons and raw materials as required by Customers and internal SPC
    • Analyze testing data and take any necessary immediate corrective actions
    • Keep lab equipment clean and calibrates
    • Initiate Corrective Actions for trends and data out of specification
    • Lead Gage R&R and MSA’s
  • Primary Level V responsibilities, in addition to those listed above;
    • Proficient at the functions of QA Tech IV
    • Back up to the Quality Lead in the absence of QA Lead
    • Conduct training activities
    • Proficient at auditing all production areas, RCCA’s for effectiveness and setting up audit criteria
  • Primary Quality Technician Lead responsibilities, in addition to those listed above;
    • Proficient at all the functions of QA Tech I, QA Tech II, QA Tech III, QA Tech IV and QA Tech V
    • Manage Quality Department in the absence of the CI Quality Manager
    • Manage Quarantine area
    • Produce reports and input information into SAP and Customer sites for complaints etc.
    • Update Quality and VOC boards
    • Generate customer COA’s and COC’s
    • Oversee GMP activities, including internal audits
    • Lead RCCA, A3, Lean and Kaizen events
    • Make customer visits as a Quality Ambassador
    • Provide training leadership, preparing presentations etc.
    • New hire orientation
    • QA Tech scheduling of assignments and coverage


Required Skills

Ideally the individual that would be a strong fit for this position would have some of the following knowledge/skills and abilities;

  • Good communication skills, written and verbal
  • Basic computer/math skills
  • Ability to work well with manufacturing department personnel
  • Familiar with TQM principles


Skills you will be required to learn on the job:

  • Operate label machine
  • Operate a variety of test equipment (i.e. score bend/open force tester, densitometer, micrometer and rub tester)

Required Experience

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Must have at least five years of professional working experience, preferably in a manufacturing setting
  • Must be proficient in all job functions of a Quality Technician II
  • Must have completed Training including but not limited to; Auditor Training, Color Theory, GMP, A3 and Lean
  • Must have completed training in lab management, testing protocols and MSA
  • Must have advanced training in, but not limited to; Auditor Training, Color Theory, MSA, GMP, A3 and Learn Training
  • Must have certification and training in; HACCP, Food Defense, Quality System Management, Lean and A3
  • Must have experience in SPC and data analysis
  • Must be willing and able to work an 8-hour shift
  • Must be willing and able to work overtime
  • Knowledge/Skills:
    • Mechanical Aptitude; ability to troubleshoot and solve equipment problems
    • Computer Proficient; ability to use Microsoft Office products to compile reports
    • Must have basic ability to execute mathematics and reading skills
