Directs and coordinates the day-to-day shift activities, by providing leadership and supervision to crew members.  Serves as the link between direct reports and middle/upper management.  This position also performs other related production duties as assigned by the Department Manager and/or Steering Team Management.

  • Plans production operations, establishing priorities and sequences for manufacturing products, utilizing knowledge of production processes and methods, machine and equipment capabilities, and human resource requirements and capabilities.
  • Supervises and coordinates activities of support resources such as quality, maintenance, shipping and receiving, and technical trainers.
  • Makes decisions on job assignments and work priorities.
  • Reviews each job run for maximum output and efficiency.
  • Reviews production and operating reports and resolves operational, manufacturing, and maintenance problems to ensure minimum costs and prevent operational delays and downtime.
  • Responsible for equipment condition and department housekeeping.
  • Researches, complies and prepares reports, correspondence, and other information required by management, as well as, identifies and resolves report discrepancies or errors.
  • Works with employees to maintain a safe work environment. Leads and supports crew members to work in a safe manner and to seek improvements in work practices using Lean/Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Ensures that product quality and production efficiencies meet or exceed established standards.
  • Examines procedures and recommends changes to save time, labor, and other costs and to improve quality control and operating efficiency.
  • Observes subordinates to ensure compliance with safety, quality, and productivity standards.
  • Verifies completeness and accuracy of subordinates’ work, computations, and records.
  • Participates in work of subordinates to facilitate productivity or overcome difficult aspects of work.
  • Instructs crew members in job duties or arranges for training to be provided.
  • Facilitates team meetings, intervenes as necessary to keep the team’s goals and results consistent with company direction, and works with the team members to develop their full potential. 
  • Initiates and participates in Human Resources actions such as discipline, performance evaluations, and payroll.
  • Evaluates subordinate job performance and recommends appropriate personnel action.
  • Administer, communicate and interpret work procedures and company policies to subordinates
  • Provides subordinates with guidance in handling difficult or complex problems and submits unsettled disputes to management.
  • Shares an obligation to protect and strengthen Graphic Packaging International’s good reputation in our relationships with customers, employees, suppliers, competitors, investors, and governmental agencies, and to act consistently with our core values: Integrity, Respect, Accountability, Relationships, and Teamwork.
  • Follows GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) ensuring crew members follow guidelines (i.e. PPE, shirt tucking, etc.).
  • Performs other related productions duties as assigned by the Department Manager and/or Management.

Education and Experience:  High School Diploma or GED; BS Degree in equivalent corresponding job-related experience in a converting facility are preferred.  Lithography experience is desirable; at least five (5) years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing industry; previous experience in folding carton or sheet fed facility desirable but not required; basic knowledge of computer skills; SAP knowledge desired; ability to work with a diverse set of personalities; ability to prioritize work flow; ability to prioritize work flow; occasional overtime and weekends are require

SCHEDULE DEMANDS:

  • General schedule is an 8-hour M-F assignment, however, employee must be willing to work alternate schedules occasionally; that may include early mornings, nights, and/or weekends and be punctual while doing so.
  • Occasional overnight travel to include flying, driving, riding or by rail.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Sitting or standing for extended periods of time up to 8-hours.
  • Occasional Lifting up to 20 lbs.
  • Reading computer screen or other electronic devices.
  • Use of various office hand and electrical tools or equipment.

Required ExperienceBACKGROUND / EXPERIENCE:

  • The Manager must be a leader with exceptional communication skills, good organization, and the ability to motivate people to perform at high levels.
  • Production experience in finishing is required and continued education is considered a plus. Must be quality conscious and customer oriented.

EDUCATION / KNOWLEDGE:

  • A four-year college degree is preferred with equipment-direct experience in the folding carton industry
  • Compensatory closely related work experience required in lieu of degree.
