Job Summary:
Performs a wide variety of duties within the Finishing Department. Additional duties performed in other departments as needed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Place cartons into the feed of various glue machines.
- Inspect/sort cartons while machine is running.
- Perform packing duties when relieving the employees within the Packer classification.
- Flat pack cartons into corrugated cases or into bulk shipping containers.
- Pile off cartons produced on mixed printing forms.
- Perform off line quality inspection including sorting, pre-break, etc.
- Clean department as needed.
- Participate in any tasks necessary to allow for continuous operation of the process.
- Capable of lifting in excess of 40 lbs.
- Follow all Plant Safety rules and maintain a safe working environment.
- Monitor the level of quality in the products being produced.
- Assist Case Stacker when two high-speed gluers are running, including palletizing cases, moving loads, dumping scrap buggies, and stocking lines with corrugate.
- Perform Case Stacker duties to cover absences or vacations.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Collect Statistical Process Control (SPC) Data as required.
- Participate in Continuous Process Improvement Activities as required.
- Follow all guidelines related to SQF Guidelines.
Qualifications:
Basic math, reading and writing skills are required to perform this job. Lift truck license is also required.
Qualifications needed for various job duties:
- Feeding machine - lift 3” to 6” of cartons at a time, weight varies depending on caliber of paper (10 to 20 lbs) 240,000 to 520,000 cartons a shift. Minimum lifting will require lifting 150 cartons (10 to 15lbs) 1,600 times/shift. Maximum lifting will require lifting 300 cartons (20lbs +) 1,733 times/shift.
Note: A. Requirements are not for individuals but for cartons size, one must be capable to perform at both spectrums
B. Body is rotating 180 degrees on each handful placed into machine.
2. Packing (relieving for breaks) - Same weight requirements as Feeding. Flipping and rotating 50 to 150 folded cartons while inspecting for quality prior to placing into corrugated case.
3. Flat Packing – Amount and frequency of packing not controlled by a machine, however production rates mandate a continuous work level. Weight restrictions are increased when packing into a corrugated case as the full cases are carried from the scales to the pallet. Cases weigh up to 40 pounds.
4. Case Stacking – Requires continuous lifting of corrugated cases weighing in excess of 40 pounds to a height reaching as high as five feet. Driving lift truck to move finished pallets or work in process loads. Frequency of lifting is determined by the speed of the lines and the quantity of cartons packed into the cases.
