The Technical Service Engineer provides packaging machinery technical service, troubleshooting, repairs, and general customer support at customer beverage plants, and may also provide machinery assembly, electrical programming, testing, and development activity support at GPI Beverage Packaging Machinery Division plants.

 Job Functions

  • Must be prepared to travel 80%-90%, sometimes on short notice. Both domestic and international travel is required. On-call and/or weekend and overtime work may periodically be required. (Approximately 1500 direct hours annually)
  • Candidate must maintain professional, upstanding appearance and attitude while representing GPI inside customers’ facilities and at all times during travel on company business
  • Must have and maintain skills necessary and consistent with packaging machinery and carton technology offered by GPI. Responsible individually or as a team member for installation, start-up, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical and mechanical systems. Job tasks are performed both within GPI facilities and at beverage customer locations.
  • Line integration.
  • Must be able to read and understand technical drawings and illustrations necessary for assembly of machines and mechanisms, pneumatic schematics, and a basic understanding of electrical schematics and drawings. Capable of producing sketches and/or mark-ups of fabrication drawings for simple part fabrication and/or modification of existing machine parts.
  • Self-motivated and personable; capable of developing and maintaining productive working relationships with customers, and acting proactively to improve the customer’s experience with GPI machinery and cartons.
  • Participates in a wide variety of service, engineering, and production activities, which may include participation in customer factory acceptance tests and customer operator training at GPI machinery manufacturing facilities, GPI carton production facilities, and customer beverage production locations.
  • Required to participate in training program development and review of technical manuals and other machine documentation for accuracy and completeness. Suggest and implement improvements to technical training and documentation in areas of safety, operation, and maintenance of machinery.
  • Must communicate frequently and effectively with Engineering and with customer contacts to resolve machinery problems and maintenance issues, and follow through to generate product improvements and performance enhancements and machine upgrades.
  • Follow proper procedures for engineering changes and follow through with required documentation after change has been implemented.
  • Responsible for the preparation of expense reports, service reports, and the management of incurred travel and living expenses in a timely matter.
  • Must complete all OSHA required safety training, and follow PMD's safety policies, as well Customer policies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 Job Requirements

  • Two-year/Associates degree or better in engineering/technology, or equivalent experience.
  • Electrical experience required; to include experience with electrical schematics and both high and low voltage.
  • PLC, Servo Drive, and integration programming (Siemens, Rockwell, Allen-Bradley).
  • Experience with production line integration; working with other equipment contractors.
  • Fabrication skills, machine tool experience including lathe/mill/drill, welding, familiarity with hot-melt adhesive systems, and motion control experience are all a plus.
  • Must demonstrate, under pressure, highly effective interpersonal and communication skills when dealing with customers.
  • Demonstration of highly effective problem solving skills, customer production issue follow-up. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Excel, Word & Power Point.
  • Bi-lingual verbal/written communication skills in Spanish a plus.
  • Previous field experience.

 

Pay Range:   $73,200.00 - $97,600.00
