Role Summary

The Supervisor—Fiber is a key member of the Fibers Department’s management team. This position is crucial to the shift operation and productivity of the Woodyard and Pulp Mill.  The successful candidate will understand and align with business operations as he/she executes their role to exceed expectations and align with GPI business objectives. This role ensures the safe and efficient operations of all area activities in the Fibers Department. This role reports to the Assistant Superintendent—Fiber.

Required Skills

Required Characteristics

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Paper Science, or related field with three (3) year’s supervisory experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge of digester operations, pulp screening, pulp washing, and bleaching processes
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Proven strong strategic planning and analytical skills
  • Demonstrated troubleshooting skills of the pulping process
  • Strong organizational skills with the proven ability develop and implement changes necessitated by internal and external business conditions
  • Solid oral and written communication skills
  • Working knowledge of the operation of an integrated mill
  • Possess an entrepreneurial and innovative spirit, with a situational (servant, directive, collaborative) leadership approach to managing the team
  • Able to work rotating shifts, weekends, and selected holidays
  • Must be able to pass a background check, drug screening and reference check
  • Proven experience with reliability and continuous improvement principles and techniques
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States

Desired Characteristics

  • Experience within a unionized environment
  • Working knowledge of SAP
  • Knowledge Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma
  • Experience and knowledge of Process Safety Management (PSM)
