MISSION / SUMMARY:

The Finishing & Shipping Supervisor is crucial to the shift operation and productivity of the Finishing & Shipping Department. The successful candidate will understand and align business operations and Finishing & Shipping as he/she executes their role to exceed expectations and align with GPI business, cultural, financial and operational objectives.

 

JOB FUNCTIONS: Job functions include, but are not limited to the following.

  • Directly supervise hourly shift employees in the daily production of the Finishing & Shipping operation.
  • Responsible for the planning and monitoring of production performance against key operating targets.
  • Ensures compliance to established customer quality and production standards.
  • Actively leads and participates in mill safety, housekeeping and lean manufacturing programs by ensuring goals are met within the department.
  • Meet quality/waste goals by ensuring all direct reports are properly trained on their equipment, following proper procedures, performing requisite inspections, and following up on suggested improvements.
  • The Supervisor must possess strong problem-solving skills and be capable of leading the crew through troubleshooting processes to resolve operational issues and recognizes when additional resources are necessary.
  • Effectively communicate both up and down the organization on key issues (e.g. performance feedback, employee issues, overtime, etc.)
  • Ensures completion of all required paperwork, schedules, work orders, etc.
  • Verify adequate staffing and payroll approval for shift employees.

Required Skills

BACKGROUND / EXPERIENCE:

  • 3-5 years of supervisory experience in manufacturing

 

EDUCATION / KNOWLEDGE:

  • 3-5 years experience leading people in Finishing & Shipping or manufacturing is a plus
  • Self-starter with demonstrated ability to set expectations and motivate crewmembers toward meeting mill and department goals.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced work environment.

 

SKILLS: Skills include but not limited to the following.

  • Effective written and verbal communications skills. Must be an effective listener.
  • Proficient computer skills, including the use of Microsoft Office Software, Excel, Word and Outlook
  • The incumbent must provide strong leadership and teamwork to make a quality product while ensuring safe and efficient operations.
  • SAP experience preferred.

 

SCHEDULE DEMANDS:

  • General schedule is a rotating shift, which includes some weekends.
  • Occasional overnight travel to include flying, driving, riding or by rail.

 

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Sitting or standing for extended periods up to 8-hours.
  • Occasional Lifting up to 20 lbs.
  • Reading computer screen or other electronic devices.
  • Use of various office hand and electrical tools or equipment.
