Printing Manager

 

 

MISSION / SUMMARY:

 

Provides leadership to the plant supervisory team, production work teams and is a member of the site leadership team reporting directly to the Plant Manager. Facilitates department meetings, intervenes as necessary to keep the goals and results consistent with company direction, and works with the plant supervisory team members to develop their full potential. The Printing Manager, in conjunction with the team, is responsible for safety, quality, productivity, equipment condition, and housekeeping for the Vancouver Plant.

 

JOB FUNCTIONS: Job functions include, but are not limited to the following.

  • Manages and facilitates the long-term goals of the printing and sheeting department. Utilizes knowledge and experience, providing training to supervision. Responsible for their individual performance as well as resolving production problems. Helps department achieve goals and has responsibility for personnel issues, including required discipline.
  • Provides a communication network between direct reports and upper management.
  • Works with all employees to maintain a safe work environment. Encourages and leads department to work in a safe manner and to seek improvement in work practices for their benefit. Develops and implements safety procedures and partners with the Safety Coordinator in achieving departmental and plant safety goals.
  • Assures that the department maintains quality standards and uses SPC techniques for problem resolution through knowledge of product specifications and training of personnel.
  • Ensures that product quality, production efficiencies, and overall productivity meet or exceeds established standards, and is directly accountable for expenditures exceeding budgeted levels.
  • Strives to be technically proficient on the machinery in the department. Provides assistance to the team in problem resolution and assures that testing and product development is carried out in a professional manner.
  • Works effectively with other department managers to resolve issues and coordinate efforts to achieve stated goals.
  • Shares an obligation to protect and strengthen Graphic Packaging International’s good reputation in our relationships with customers, employees, suppliers, competitors, investors, and governmental agencies, and to act consistently with our core values: Integrity, Respect, Accountability, Relationships, and Teamwork
  • Strives to be technically proficient on the machinery in the department. Assists the team in problem resolution.
  • Participates in Root Cause Analysis and Corrective Actions (from customer complaints, SQF audits, validation, and verification activities) as required.
  • Follows all procedures related to producing Safe Quality Foods (SQF).
  • Reports any potentially unsafe SQF conditions or customer complaints to a person of authority to record and/or correct the situation.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

BACKGROUND / EXPERIENCE:

  • Production experience in printing is required and continued education is considered a plus. Must be quality conscious and customer oriented. 
  • Experience working in a non-union environment
  • Experience in Lithographic Printing
  • Experience working with Manroland and Heidelberg printing press.
  • Proven track record of identifying opportunities and the ability to recommend and implement improvements
  • Leader with exceptional communication skills, good organization, and the ability to communicate with all levels of the organization

 

EDUCATION / KNOWLEDGE:

  • A four-year college degree is preferred with equipment-direct experience in the folding carton industry.
  • Compensatory closely related work experience required in lieu of degree.

SCHEDULE DEMANDS:

 

  • General schedule is an M-F assignment 8+ hour days, with rotating weekend/night call coverage.  Employee must be willing to work alternate schedules occasionally; that may include early mornings, nights, and/or weekends and be punctual while doing so. Schedule includes weekend rotation coverage.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Sitting or standing for extended periods up to 8-hours.
  • Occasional Lifting up to 20 lbs.
  • Wear PPE when required: Safety glasses, hearing protection etc.
  • Reading computer screen or other electronic devices.
  • Use of various office hand and electrical tools or equipment.
  • Confined space entry of equipment and vessels during outages.
  • Walking down all process areas and equipment.

Pay Range:   $93,030.00 - $124,005.00
