Provides leadership and supervision to the 3rd shift of production work teams and serves as the link to plant management.  Facilitates team meetings, intervenes as necessary to keep the team’s goals and results consistent with company direction and works with the team members to develop their full potential.  The supervisor, in conjunction with the shift, is responsible for product quality, product quantity, equipment condition, team member safety and department housekeeping. Additionally, the supervisor will make decisions on job assignments, work priorities and overtime requirements, as well as correct any safety or quality problems, administer discipline, and make hire and fire recommendations.

 

Job functions include but are not limited to the following:

 

  • Supervises and facilitates the day-to-day shift activities of the team. Utilizes knowledge and experience, providing training to team members.  Responsible for their individual performance.  Oversees scheduling, material handling issues and maintenance, as well as resolving production problems.  Helps team to achieve goals and has responsibility for personnel issues, including required discipline
  • Provides a communication network between direct reports and middle and upper management
  • Works with employees to maintain a safe work environment. Encourages and leads team members to work in a safe manner and to seek improvement in work practices for their benefit.  Develops and implements safety procedures and supports EH&S Manager in achieving departmental and plant safety goals
  • Assures that the team maintains quality standards and uses Lean techniques for problem resolution through knowledge of product specifications and training of personnel
  • Ensures that product quality, production efficiencies, and overall productivity meets or exceeds established standards, and is directly accountable for expenditures exceeding budgeted levels
  • Strives to be technically proficient in the machinery in the department. Aids the team in problem resolution and assures that testing and product development is carried out in a professional manner
  • Position will be on 3rd shift.

  • Knowledge of basic manufacturing practices, including Lean Manufacturing and 5S and strong problem-solving skills
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively under tight deadlines
  • Basic mechanical ability to make adjustment to the equipment to maximize production and ensure quality standards are met or exceeded.
  • Excellent attendance record and flexibility to work rotating shifts & overtime
  • Perform all duties in an independent manner with minimal direction and supervision.

 

Physical Demands

  • Ability to work on 3rd Shift.
  • Standing occasionally and walking and sitting frequently, depending on changing job assignment, for extended periods.
  • Awkward and/or repetitive movements.
  • Ability to climb, twist neck and back, and finger frequently (34-66% of the time).
  • Ability to balance, stoop, bend, squat, twist, handle, feel, reach above shoulder and at or below shoulder, reach over 18”, reach to the floor, kneel and drive occasionally (1-33% of the time).
  • Lifting up to 50 lbs. occasionally (1-33% of the time).
  • Requires use of both feet on an occasional basis for walking, climbing stairs, and possibly ladders.
  • Requires use of both hands for simple grasping (frequently) and pushing/pulling (occasionally) for purposes of going through production reports, holding a clipboard, and inspecting equipment and machinery.
  • Ability to read, write, hear, see, speak and have agility on a continuous basis.
  • Reading computer screen or other electronic devices.
  • Use of various hand and electrical tools and equipment.
  • Work in areas of fluctuating temperature and loud noises.
  • PPE required: Steel-toed/safety footwear, Safety Glasses, Hearing Protection, Cut resistant Safety Gloves, Hair Net, Beard Net.

Required Experience

  • Highschool Diploma or GED
  • Minimum 1 year of manufacturing experience
  • Prior experience working on a back shift
  • A four-year college degree is preferred
  • Experience in the paper or packaging industries is preferred

 

Pay Range of Role - $64,300.00 - $96,500.00
