MISSION / SUMMARY:

The position exists to execute process improvement tasks and projects to reduce unscheduled downtime, increase life of assets, and enhance processes to improve safety, quality, and plant performance.  The CI Manager understands and aligns business operations and continuous improvement efforts as he/she executes their role to exceed customer expectations and align with GPI business, cultural, financial and operational objectives. This involves the development, implementation, and preservation of the validity of the Quality System, the proper allocation of available capital to equipment and processes which move the business forward and the identification of personnel training requirements relative to new equipment and processes. 

JOB FUNCTIONS: Job functions include, but are not limited to the following.

  • Direct the development of SPC in both production and CI areas necessary to maintain a level of process control that meets or exceeds customer expectations.
  • Meet and maintain all divisional Process Management objectives as established by GPI.
  • Maintain a Quality System conforming to the standards and guidelines of the American National Standards Institute and Lean/Six Sigma practices.
  • Must be supportive and involved in GPI efforts for LEAN, 5’s, Six Sigma and other Continuous Improvement programs and processes.
  • Create Capital Improvement Proposals (CIPs) and manage approved projects within budget/time constraints.
  • Provide input to the 5 year capital and infrastructure program.
  • Develop capital requests, RFP’s, bids, and recommend vendors. Hire vendors.  Manage construction and quality control of new projects.
  • Demonstrates organizational agility by being able to find solutions through teamwork.
  • Develop and maintain accurate and complete spending forecasts
  • Discuss and lay out project specifications.
  • Make detailed plans to accomplish goals.
  • Review, approve, or modify product designs.
  • Prepare budgets, bids, and contracts.
  • Approve expenditures.
  • Review and recommend contracts.
  • Develop cost estimates.
  • Draft proposals and reports for upper management.
  • Check technical accuracy of work.
  • Excellence in Project Engineering and Capital Project Management to include Administrative follow-up and tracking of expenditures – Capital and One-Time Costs (Expense) including appropriate coordination and interface with Finance. The use of thorough presentation and detailed tracking methods and tools is required to be successful.
  • Effective Negotiation with Vendors, Contractors, Plants, Operational Leads, and Corporate Support functions for price, timing, resources, and development of agreed-upon plans for execution.
  • Impeccable Communication - Clear and concise communication in both verbal and written formats. This is an absolute “must” competency based on the dynamic nature of the role which includes multiple sources of daily coordination, interaction, and follow-up.
  • Out-of-the-Box Idea generation resulting in creative optimized solutions including recommendations on practical application and implementation that provide a decided business advantage.
  • Highly Proficient Technical Skill – proven mechanical, electrical, or industrial hands-on skill and experience including implementation of equipment modification resulting in improved utilization, coordination of Factory Acceptance Tests with OEMs for new or modified equipment, developing accurate (to-scale) CAD drawings, analysis of flow and functionality, and interface with Engineering, Maintenance, and Reliability professionals at Manufacturing Plants.
  • Support the facility capital budget to meet business commitments.
  • Service internal customers by continuously improving production and maintenance processes which directly impacts safety, efficiencies, and material and labor cost
  • Complete root cause failure analysis and implement corrective actions to improve efficiencies
  • Identify and implement cost savings initiatives that reduce plant expenses
  • Implement and share best practices with other food service facilities.
  • Contribute to a safe work environment by identifying and implementing safety improvements.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

DELIVERABLES:

  • Capital projects meet committed spending targets on time and within budget
  • Process improvements are identified by analyzing the processes and applying analytical problem solving skills
  • Safety and ergonomics improvements are identified through observations and interaction with plant personnel and issues are corrected using plant personnel and contractor labor
  • Cost saving targets are achieved by eliminating waste (time, energy, money) which reduces overall plant expense
  • Implement systems to improve equipment efficiencies using data to identify areas for improvement and implementing appropriate corrective actions
  • Support departments on as needed basis to develop training programs to keep the skills up to date as technology changes

 

BACKGROUND / EXPERIENCE:

  • 3-5 years of project and/or process experience preferred
  • Relevant technical knowledge with ability to function as technical expert on equipment/processes
  • Six (6) years experience in Quality Management, Engineering Management, Production Management    and/or Project Management in a manufacturing environment. Black Belt Six Sigma Certification.

 

EDUCATION / KNOWLEDGE:

  • S. in Engineering, preferred field of study of Mechanical, Industrial, or Electrical
  • Lean Six Sigma certification preferred
  • Compensatory closely related work experience required in lieu of degree.

SCHEDULE DEMANDS:

  • General schedule is an 8-hour M-F assignment, however, employee must be willing to work alternate schedules occasionally; that may include early mornings, nights, and/or weekends and be punctual while doing so.
  • Occasional overnight travel to include flying, driving, riding or by rail.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Sitting or standing for extended periods of time up to 8-hours.
  • Occasional Lifting up to 20 lbs.
  • Reading computer screen or other electronic devices.
  • Use of various office hand and electrical tools or equipment.
