MISSION / SUMMARY:
The Manager HSE (Environmental), is a key member of the Waco, TX Paperboard Manufacturing Leadership team and is responsible for leading the Environmental Function at the operation, implementing operational plans to drive both short and long-term objectives, and provide expertise through demonstrated leadership. The position is responsible for managing the environmental aspects of the GPI HSE Management System and related matters to safeguard the environment. This role reports directly to the operation’s Mill Manager and engages other operations and functions as required. The Waco Environmental Manager supports the global HSE global vision, mission, overall goals and objectives and is the key liaison with HSE leadership.
The Manager will have history of sustained results, leadership, prioritization, coordination and consistent deployment of strategy, customer service and compliance are requirements for this position. Direct responsibilities include environmental regulatory compliance and agency and community interaction. The individual works cross-functionally and to develop relationships to achieve compliance, positive employee, and community relations, influences to create a positive HSE culture and drives results that achieve positive business performance. The individual will influence proactively in a dynamic work environment. Expected results focus on driving a proactive, sustainable, and continuously improving HSE management system, developing, and enhancing employee environmental knowledge, innovating transformation, and performing with excellence.
Key Responsibilities and Job Functions: Primary job functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Managing the environmental programs, budget, consultants, and direction for the Paperboard Manufacturing Facility (PMF)
- Accountable for leading the environmental aspects of the GPI HSE Management System to drive program maturity.
- Developing plans and delivers results in a fast-changing business and regulatory environment by participating in Paperboard Manufacturing Division (PMD) Environmental initiatives to drive process improvements.
- Contributes directly to Paperboard Manufacturing Facility (PMF) priorities and planning
- Drives compliance maturity with environmental regulations such as Clean Air Act (including Title V Air Program), Clean Water Act (including NPDES and Storm Water Programs), Wastewater discharge permit requirements with local city, RCRA, TSCA, SARA, etc.
- Plans and leads self-assessments to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Builds solid working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Interacts with the PMF personnel and management to communicate environmental requirements, identify compliance issues, and implement compliance requirements.
- Develops and provides training on key environmental issues, permitting, and environmental requirements.
- Develops and implements environmental guidelines and best practices.
- Investigates environmental incidents and develops recommendations to prevent future incidents.
- Maintains up-to-date, comprehensive knowledge of federal/state/local environmental laws, EPA regulations, and corporate policies.
- Aligns business operations and corporate objectives.
- Other duties as assigned.
