Summary:

Process Control Sr. Engineer Advisor is responsible for the control system equipment, system software, and application software that controls the process: working with operating departments to implement control strategies for new process equipment; modifying/enhancing controls on existing process equipment: working with maintenance personnel and operations to identify and resolve problems with process equipment to allow the process to operate within specified limits.

The Process Control Engineer provides overall evaluation of existing manufacturing processes, developing process control strategies and ensuring that our manufacturing processes with required industry specifications and regulations. Demonstrated experience in optimizing control processes and specialization in a related field with the ability to translate optimization strategies into streamlined and cost-effective manufacturing processes. Provide leadership, technical direction, administrative management, and process control leadership to facility maintenance and operational teams.

 

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Design and implement process control strategies including regulatory control, control sequence, logic, and advanced control for both continuous and batch processes.
  • Develop, modify, and enhance HMI
  • Monitor control system performance, which includes loop analysis and tuning
  • Implement new control system technology
  • Support process problem solving by identifying sources of process upsets and other anomalies.
  • Develop and maintain alarm systems
  • Support capital projects.  Must be able to develop project justification and manage a capital project or sub-project related to process controls.
  • Identifying areas that need process control optimization.
  • Evaluating the efficiency of manufacturing technologies, instruments, equipment, and tools.
  • Driving process control innovation in collaboration with senior managers.
  • Recommending suitable software solutions and automating manufacturing processes.
  • Recruiting process specialists and training teams on the implementation of new processes.
  • Keeping process control operations within budget without compromising quality and efficiency.
  • Ensuring compliance with industry standards and safety regulations.
  • Documenting processes and preparing progress reports.
  • Keeping abreast of developments and innovation in process control engineering.
  • Supports mill and department goals in safety, environmental compliance, quality, cost, productivity, and continuous improvement.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

  • (5-7) years process control experience required.  Good working knowledge of Distributed Control Systems (DCS) – particularly Honeywell Experion or TDC; experience with Programmable Logic Controllers (Allen Bradley ControlLogix) is a plus
  • BS Degree in Engineering (Industrial, Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, or Pulp/Paper Science)
  • Specialization in process control systems preferred.
  • Experience in process control engineering in a related industry.
  • Proficiency in project management and Statistical Process Control (SPC) software.
  • Extensive industry-specific process control knowledge.

SPECIFIC SKILLS:

  • Firm Foundation in industrial process knowledge.  Pulp and Paper desired.
  • Experience with instrumentation and electrical systems associated with process control systems.
  • Excellent computer skills – particularly Microsoft including Outlook, Excel, Word, Project, Power Point.
  • Highly competent in data analysis and use of process data historians such as OSI PI or Capstone ParcView.
  • Understand P&ID drawings, loop sheets, and motor elementaries and be able to create these drawings as necessary to support project work and to maintain existing drawing using AutoCad or equivalent drawing tools.
  • Proven record of identifying opportunities and the ability to recommend and implement improvements.
  • Must be a leader with exceptional communication skills, good organization, and the ability to communicate with all levels of the organization.
  • An expert level of knowledge in process control strategy.

    • Ability to ensure adherence to industry standards and regulations.
