JOB SUMMARY: Directs and coordinates the Human Resources function at the plant level. They understand and align business operations and the Department as he/she executes their role to exceed customer expectations and align with GPI business, cultural, financial and operational objectives.

 

 

JOB FUNCTIONS: Job functions include, but are not limited to the following.

  • Administers and monitors all core aspects of the Human Resources function at the plant level. Ensures that the operation is within guidelines regarding Federal and State laws.  Maintains all records and files reports as required by the proper government agency.
  • Contributes to the development of an effective workforce and to a positive working environment in the Plant via employee development training, coordination of employee programs, etc.
  • Counsels and advises management and employees on problem resolution, supervisory discretion, and policy interpretation.
  • Works directly with union leadership and Labor Relations Staff on all matters relating to union issues
  • Responsible for compliance with Federal, State, and Local regulations.
  • Assists Health, Safety & Environmental Manager with Worker’s Compensation claims.
  • Administers the Graphic Packaging Benefits Program.
  • Maintains records and provides assistance to employees as needed regarding insurance, retirement plan, etc. 
  • Responsible for all employment activity at the Plant level; monitors plant staffing guidelines and administers internal and external requisition flow; Has oversight and involvement in all hiring practices. Administers the hiring process for all employee groups.
  • Responsible for recruitment and retention strategies
  • Responsible for leading the on-boarding process and integration of employees
  • Accountable for maintaining current job descriptions at the Plant level.
  • Work closely with Plant Management team to link Human Resources programs, practices, and policies with business strategies and objectives.
  • Conduct annual training on Safety/Environmental, Code of Business Ethics, Anti-Harassment, Anti-Discrimination, and other related HR Policies.
  • Draft responses to hotline complaints, NLRB charges and EEOC charges filed by employees
  • Responsible to ensure GPI Culture Development and Performance Management Systems are administered locally in accordance with corporate guidelines.
  • Plans organize and control all activities of the department. Participates in developing department goals, objectives, and systems.
  • Develops and maintains affirmative action program; maintains other records, reports, and logs to conform to EEO regulations.
  • Initiate actions within the HRIS and manages employee files.
  • Handles data requests from Corporate and regional HR on plant metrics as needed
  • Responsible for compliance with all facility food safety, food defense, and quality policies and procedures including product safety (GMPs)/Sanitation policies and procedures. 
  • Must be supportive of GPI’s Mission, Vision, and Core Values (Integrity, Respect, Accountability, Relationships, and Teamwork).
  • Must be supportive and involved in GPI efforts for LEAN, 5S, Six Sigma and other Continuous Improvement programs and processes.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

 

BACKGROUND / EXPERIENCE:

  • Manufacturing experience preferred
  • Experience working with unions in a manufacturing setting is required

EDUCATION / KNOWLEDGE:

  • Bachelor’s degree is required and related field and/or equivalent experience in a converting facility is preferred
  • At least 10 years experience in Human Resources Management, preferably in a manufacturing environment
  • PHR/SPHR certification preferred

 

 

SKILLS:

  • LANGUAGE SKILLS
    • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
    • Bilingual in English/Spanish is preferred
  • MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
    • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • REASONING ABILITY
    • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • MECHANICAL
  • COMPUTER/OFFICE EQUIPMENT SKILLS
    • SAP, MS Office and database programs
    • Requires use of all general office equipment (e.g. fax, copier, telephone, etc.)
  • CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

 

SCHEDULE DEMANDS:

  • General schedule is an 8-hour M-F assignment, however, employee must be willing to work alternate schedules occasionally; that may include early mornings, nights, and/or weekends and be punctual while doing so.
  • Occasional overnight travel to include flying, driving, riding or by rail.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    • Sitting continuously, depending on job assignment, for extended periods
    • Ability to twist neck and back and fingering frequently (34-66% of the time)
    • Ability to balance, stoop, bend, squat, climb, twist, handle, feel, reach above shoulder level, at or below shoulder level, over 18” and to reach to the floor, and kneel occasionally (1-33% of the time)
    • Lifting up to 10 lbs occasionally (1-33% of the time)
    • Typing and computer skills are essential
    • Requires repetitive use of both hands for simple grasping on an occasional basis; for use in administrative type work, computer, filing, copying, phone use, talking
    • Ability to read, write, hear, see, speak
    • Reading computer screen or other electronic devices
    • Work in areas of fluctuating temperature and loud noises
    • PPE required: Steel-toed/safety footwear, Safety Glasses, Hearing Protection, Cut resistant Safety Gloves, Hair Net, Beard Net
