This is a critical position for the Mill that provides supervision and management of the operation of power/steam generation and distribution systems, and chemical recovery operations in GPI's largest paperboard mill.

Assets include three power boilers at 1,100,000 lbs./hr., one with gas burners that operate at 600 psi and one high pressure boiler fired on gas and bark that operates at 1500 psi. 2 GE steam turbines that can maximize electrical generation at 50MW, and 1 gas turbine. Two recovery boilers, supported by 2 sets of evaporators and 2 concentrators.




Job functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Assist the area Superintendent by providing technical support for Shift Engineers supervising approximately 20 hourly employees in the operation of power and steam generation and distribution systems, and chemical recovery operations in a large pulp and paper mill. 
  • Accountable for area performance in accordance to established key performance indicators (KPI’s) to include: safety, environmental compliance, housekeeping, quality and efficiency. Takes necessary actions to ensure goals are achieved in a team environment by leading or promoting problem solving and development of countermeasures that will prevent future reoccurrence.
  • Plans and controls production performance against operating targets.
  • Provide strong leadership and teamwork to make a quality product while ensuring a safe and efficient operation.
  • Participates with Maintenance / Operations to coordinate maintenance items and assist in planning monthly maintenance items. 
  • Administer and implement Labor relations (CBA) through consultation with the Human Resource and Mill Managers.
  • Assist in preparation of budgets and standards for cost measurement.
  • Determine training needs and administer appropriate training programs for salaried and hourly employees in each production area in the most reliable manner.
  • The candidate will participate in weekend call rotations for the Power & Recovery area.

Required Skills


  • Five (5) years of supervisory experience leading Utility areas including recovery boilers in the pulp and paper industry. 


  • Bachelor of Science, Engineering preferred.
