MISSION / SUMMARY:

The Continuous Improvement Engineer will facilitate continuous improvement efforts throughout the mill through the development and implementation of best practices to improve safety, quality, productivity, and cost reduction.  This will be accomplished through the facilitation of structured problem-solving events using various Six Sigma/Lean methodologies and principles (e.g., 5S, Value Stream Mapping (VSM), Single Minute Exchange of Dies (SMED) and Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), Kaizen, etc.).  This entry-level position provides technical support and leadership within the department assigned, leading to future supervisory roles within the organization. 

Key responsibility of this role is to provide support for process improvement projects.  These projects will involve chemicals, mechanical improvements, support for trials and investigations of new technologies.  The Manufacturing Excellence Continuous Improvement Engineer will support the mill’s Key Performance Indicators (KPI) management system as required.  This will include updating operator rounds, auditing of operations for out-of-range process variables and working with management and hourly employees to correct out of range KPI’s. 

Candidate should be a self-starter, be self-directed, take initiative to move forward with ideas, be committed and be able to work with and influence others. Must learn quickly and effectively perform data analysis with path forward recommendations. 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Facilitate Continuous Improvement efforts through Six Sigma/Lean methodologies.
  • Lead Kaizen events using Kepner Trego/Problem Analysis/Potential Problem Analysis tools
  • Review daily production and quality data, analyzes production and operation issues.
  • Responsibilities include implementing manufacturing processes, troubleshooting process, equipment issues, data collection and analysis.
  • Assist with managing trials and identifying process improvements.  
  • Effectively analyze process trends to recommend corrective action to help reduce variability
  • Analyze weekly and monthly process trends.
  • Assist in the preparation and implementation of mill Annual Improvement Plan (AIP)

EDUCATION / KNOWLEDGE:

  • Bachelor’s Degree - Chemical Engineering, Pulp & Paper Science, or other engineering discipline.
  • Prefer 2-5 years’ work experience;  pulp and paper industry preferred
  • Six Sigma/Lean Manufacturing experience preferred.
  • SAP system knowledge, team building skills, Union knowledge, and excellent communication skills.

 

This role is incentive plan eligible.  Additional information will be shared during the hiring process.
