MISSION / SUMMARY:

Develop, implement and report the strategy, tactics and results of the Wood Procurement Department. Understand and align business operations and Wood Procurement as he/she executes their role to exceed customer expectations and align with GPI business, cultural, financial, and operational objectives.

JOB FUNCTIONS: Job functions include but, not limited to the following.

  • In coordination with the Manager, Wood Procurement, implement the defined strategy for sourcing/purchasing wood and bark for the mill from all sources.
  • Negotiate pricing on wood (roundwood, chips, and bark) and transportation.
  • Develop and implement initiatives to improve the cost of fiber, while managing supply risk.
  • Manage administration of assigned supply agreements.
  • Interface closely with team to coordinate the wood, chip, and fuelwood deliveries and inventories.
  • Maintain strong vendor relationships.
  • Monitor competitive markets.
  • Assist in maintenance of wood related certifications for the West Monroe Mill.
    • Assist with month-end inventories.
    • Up to 75% day travel, occasional overnight travel
    • Other duties as assigned.

 SCHEDULE DEMANDS:

  • General schedule is an 8-hour M-F assignment, however, employee must be willing to work alternate schedules occasionally; that may include early mornings, nights, and/or weekends and be punctual while doing so.
  • Occasional overnight travel to include flying, driving, riding or by rail.

 PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Sitting or standing for extended periods of time up to 8 hours.
  • Occasional Lifting up to 20 lbs.
  • Reading computer screen or other electronic devices.
  • Use of various office hand and electrical tools or equipment.
  • Driving for extended periods

Required Experience

BACKGROUND / EXPERIENCE:

  • 5 years of Wood Purchasing or Forest Management experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of mill-oriented experience preferred
  • Working knowledge of the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC), Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Controlled Wood Standard, the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) Chain of Custody Standards and the Sustainable Forestry Initiative Standard for Wood Procurement Systems.

 

EDUCATION / KNOWLEDGE:

  • Four-year Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university in Forestry or related field or eight (8) years of compensatory closely related work experience required in lieu of degree
  • Demonstrated knowledge of forestry practices
  • Demonstrated knowledge of government compliance regulations related to forestry, logging and transportation
