The Finishing Manager exercises judgment where appropriate in managing and ensuring the efficient operation of the Finishing Department. They are responsible for quality, equipment condition, safety, the efficient operation of the equipment and production scheduling and planning of product to be produced in the Finishing Department.
Job Functions: Including, but not limited to the following:
- Use Lean Daily Management to improve operational effectiveness in the areas of safety, quality, productivity, and culture
- Using Lean manufacturing concepts streamline processes and procedures.
- Responsible for managing team leads and ultimately, all hourly Finishing department employees, including but not limited to, scheduling shifts, assigning and directing work, performance reviews, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems.
- Must provide 30, 60 and 90 day performance reviews for all new hires and departmental transfers.
- Oversees the daily operations of the finishing department and ensures that production efficiencies and overall productivity meets or exceeds established standards. Responsible for solving production problems.
- Responsible for raw material purchases for the Finishing Department.
- Has overall responsibility for maintenance of equipment and coordinates maintenance requirements to minimize operational impact.
- Assures the department maintains quality standards and coordinates with the Quality Department to ensure adherence to customer quality standards.
- Works to maintain a safe work environment and develops and implements safety procedures to aid in achieving departmental and company safety goals.
- Directly involved in responsibilities /actions related to Prerequisite and Food Safety Programs.
- Responsible for production scheduling and planning of product to be produced in Finishing. Strives to achieve minimum waste of product to meet profit goals.
- Participate in SQF Root Cause and Corrective Actions (from customer complaints, SQF audits, validation, and verification activities) as required.
- Follow all procedures related to producing Safe Quality Foods (SQF).
- Report any potentially unsafe SQF conditions or customer complaints to a person of authority to record and/or correct the situation.
- Shares an obligation to protect and strengthen Graphic Packaging International’s good reputation in our relationships with customers, employees, suppliers, competitors, investors, and governmental agencies, and to act consistently with our core values: Integrity, Respect, Accountability, Relationships, and Teamwork
- Other duties as assigned
Job Requirements
- 5+ years of managerial experience in manufacturing required.
- Managerial experience in paperboard manufacturing, strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated supervisory and project management skills.
- Lean Manufacturing / Six Sigma continuing education preferred.
- Technical and problem-solving skills.
- Must be a leader with exceptional communication skills, good organization, and the ability to motivate people to perform at high levels.
- Must be able to coordinate and manager multiple projects and departmental requirements at one time, while meeting deadlines.
- Must be quality conscious and customer oriented
Schedule Demands:
- General Schedule is Monday – Friday – 7AM – 3PM, however successful candidate must be willing to do a on-call rotation approximately every 8 weeks in coordination with other department managers.
- Occasionally travel may be required for training purposes.
