The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for keeping all production machines and support equipment in running condition.  Duties involve repairing mechanical equipment, installing, aligning and setup of new equipment and motor control systems in a 24/7 production facility.

 

 

Key Responsibilities:  This job description is not meant to include every detail of day-to-day activities of the Maintenance Mechanic, but is instead, meant to be an overview of main responsibilities.

 

  • Repair or replace defective equipment parts, using hand tools and power tools, and reassembly of equipment
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance to ensure the machines continue to run smoothly, and operate efficiently
  • Perform new installations and customizations to equipment to improve machine reliability and efficiency
  • Inspect drives, motors, belts, check fluid levels, replace filters, and perform other maintenance actions, following checklists and LOTO procedures
  • Respond to work orders, breakdowns, and emergency repairs
  • Interfaces with outside technical support organizations to obtain information, procedures, technical documents, and verbal instructions needed to accelerate resolutions to problems
  • Use tools ranging from hand and power tools to precision measuring instruments and electrical and electronic testing devices.
  • Diagnose mechanical problems and determine how to make repairs, checking blueprints, repair manuals and parts catalogs as necessary
  • Inspect, operate, and test machinery and equipment to diagnose machine malfunctions
  • Clean and lubricate shafts, bearings, gears, and other machinery parts
  • Dismantle devices to access and remove defective parts, using hoists, forklifts, hand tools and power tools
  • Plant and lay out repair work, using diagrams, drawings blueprints, maintenance manuals, and schematic diagrams
  • Effectively and efficiently submit parts orders and repair reports
  • Adjust functional parts of devices and control instruments, using hand tools and metering equipment
  • Relief for coverage of shifts for absences and vacations
  • Other duties as assigned and required

  • Support GPI safety programs and training
  • Maintains safe and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures, complying with legal codes and regulations

 

 

Job Requirements:

  • Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) Red Seal Certification required
  • 5 years of experience in a production environment preferred
  • Printing press basic trouble shooting experience preferred
  • Highly flexible, with solid interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while meeting deadlines safely
  • Ability to interact with customers, co-workers, and managers in a professional and courteous manner
  • Critical Thinking
  • Reading Comprehension/Writing
  • Complex Problem Solving

 

 

Physical Requirements: 

 

  • Sitting or standing for extended periods of time up to 12 hours
  • Awkward and/or repetitive movements
  • Climbing, stooping, bending and overhead reaching
  • Frequent walking
  • Lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Use of various hand and electrical tools and equipment

 

 

Shift Schedule:

 

Must be able to work various shifts that cover a 24-hour operation, including weekdays and weekends and available for overtime and on call duty as needed.
