Mission:  Responsible for keeping all production machines and support equipment in running condition.  Duties involve repairing mechanical equipment, installing, aligning and setup of new equipment and motor control systems in a 24/7 production facility.  

 

Key Responsibilities:  This job description is not meant to include every detail of day-to-day activities of the mechanic role but is instead meant to be an overview of main responsibilites.

  • Repair or replace defective equipment parts, using hand tools and power tools, and ressembly of equipment.
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance to ensure that machines contine to run smoothly and operate efficiently.
  • Inspect drives, motors, belts check fluid levels, replace filters, and perform other maintenance actions, following checklists and LOTO procedures.
  • Interfaces with outside technical support organizations to obrain information, procedures, technical documents and verbal instructions needed to accelerate resolutions to problems.
  • Use tools ranging from hand and power tools to precision measuring instruments and electrical and electronic testing devices.
  • Diagnose mechnical problems and determine how to make repairs, check blueprints, repair manuals and parts catalogues, as necessary.
  • Inspect, operate, and test machinery and equipment to diagnose machine malfunctions.
  • Clean and lubricate shafts, bearings, gears, and other machinery parts.
  • Dismantle devices to access and remove defective parts, using  hoists, forklifts, hand tools and power tools.
  • Plan and layout repair work, using diagrams, blueprint drawings, maintenance manuals and schematic diagrams.
  • Effectively and efficently submit parts orders and repair reports.
  • Adjust functional parts of devices and control instruments, using hand tools and metering equipment.
  • Relief for coverage of shifts for absences and vacations.
  • Other duties as assigned and required.
  • Expected to supply a standard industrial set of tools.  The company will supply specialtiy tools.

Skills and Education:

  • Must have Red Seal Certification from an accredited educational institute.
  • Printing press basic trouble shooting experience is preferred.
  • Ability to work in a demanding environment while meeting deadlines, safely.
  • Ability to interact with customers, co-workers, and managers in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Critical thinking.
  • Reading comprehension/writing.
  • Complex problem solving.

Physical Requirements:

  • Sitting or standing for extended periods of time - up to 12 hours.
  • Awkward and/or repetitive movements.
  • Climbing, stooping, bending, and overhead reaching.
  • Frequent walking.
  • Lifting to 50 lbs.
  • Use of various hand and electrical tools and equipment.

Shifts:

  • Must be able to work all shifts, including but not limited to days/afternoons, nights, weekends.
  • Must be able to work statutory holidays as per the Collective Agreement.
  • Must be able to work rotating on-call shifts.
