Job Details
JOB SUMMARY: Lead the quality assurance testing as defined by plant management or customer specification. Interprets organization/customer requirements related to product specifications. Lead audit quality checks and procedure compliance
JOB FUNCTIONS: Job functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Performs and monitors quality checks in all departments to ensure defects do not occur.
- Train operators on how to identify and prevent product defects
- Train operators on quality checks and testing SOP’s.
- Achieves SQF and HACCP certifications and trains New Hires to GMPs and performs annual SQF training with all employees
- Works with operators to troubleshoot defects and determine correct course of action
- Performs daily testing for customer products, as required
- Determines and manages substandard product and raw materials (paperboard) determining what can/should be sold, sorted/reworked or scrapped
- Enters Internal and Vendor (Raw Material) Complaints into non-SAP SharePoint
- Manages quality incident investigation process to ascertain root cause(s) - for use in recommending preventive measures and improving quality
- Oversees all sort activities (establish sort standards, mentor and monitor temporary employees, SAP entries, and housekeeping)
- Performs customer and internal sampling requirements
- Participate in internal and external customer visits
- Manages Color standard and 1st run color materials process. Works directly with operators to achieve high quality color material
- Manages quality lab (testing, calibrations, trouble shooting, housekeeping, and training)
- Develops and maintains documents and SOPs
- COA’s, EOM reporting, and Color Management
- Gathers data as requested for projects/troubleshooting, etc.
- Gives the OK to sell when supervisor is unavailable.
- Participates in safety and quality behavior-based observations.
- May assist supervising a team of quality inspectors

BACKGROUND / EXPERIENCE:
- Manufacturing experience preferred
- To perform this job successfully, an individual must have excellent attendance, be able to work independently and be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
SKILLS:
- LANGUAGE SKILLS
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Bilingual in English/Spanish is Highly Preferred.
- MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent, and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
- REASONING ABILITY
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Computer Skills
- Must be proficient with Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, Power Point). Previous ERP experience preferred.
- Mechanical Skills
- Ability to use industry standard testing equipment, measuring devices and scales required.
EDUCATION / KNOWLEDGE:
- High School Diploma, GED or equivalent required
- 3-5 years’ experience, preferably in manufacturing
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- SCHEDULE REQUIREMENTS:
- Schedules are 8-hour shifts (M-F).
- Employees are required to work overtime to include up to 12-hour shifts including weekends.
- Employees must have the ability to work alternate schedules and overtime that may include early mornings, nights, and/or weekends and be punctual while doing so.
- Employees must be available to travel to customer facilities for inspection or sorting activities. Expected travel is <25%
- PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to work upwards of 6 days a week for upwards of 60+ hours per week
- Standing, depending on changing job assignments, for extended periods.
- Awkward and/or repetitive movements
- Ability to stand, bend, and walk frequently (34-66% of the time)
- Ability to squat, climb, reach above shoulder up to 26”, reach at waist or lower, push up to force of 15 lbs., pull, carry, kneel, grasp, sit, finger occasionally (1-33% of the time)
- Lifting up to 45 lbs. occasionally (1-10% of the time)
- Requires use of both feet
- Requires use of both hands for simple grasping, firm grasping, fine manipulation and repetitive actions on a continuous basis
- Right- and left-hand coordination is necessary
- Ability to read, write, hear, see, speak and have agility on a continuous basis
- Reading computer screens or other electronic devices
- Use of various hand and electrical tools and equipment
- Work in areas of fluctuating temperature and loud noises
- PPE required: Steel-toed/safety footwear, Safety Glasses, Hearing Protection, Cut resistant Safety Gloves, Hair Net, Beard Net
Safe Quality Food Responsibilities:
- Follow all Plant rules, Processes, Hygiene, and Allergens procedures, related to production of Safe Quality Foods.
- Report to person of authority to record any potentially unsafe conditions which may result in unsafe foods or noncompliance to SQF related procedures.
- Participate in SQF Root Cause and Corrective Actions (from customer complaints, SQF audits, validation, and verification activities) as required.
- Follow all procedures related to producing Safe Quality Foods (SQF).
- Report any potentially unsafe SQF conditions or customer complaints to a person of authority to record and/or correct the situation.
