Title:  Senior Human Resources Manager

MISSION / SUMMARY:

The Senior Human Resources Manager is expected to be a key business partner and leader for this group of seven locations (5 union, 2 nonunion) for approximately 650 employees. The role will be based out of one of the following locations:  Winston-Salem, NC; Memphis, TN or Atlanta, GA; or the right candidate could work virtually from their home office.  They will provide coaching, consulting, support, policy interpretation and application to include matters relating employee and labor relations. The Senior Human Resources Manager leads engagement and culture initiatives that include employee communications, health and wellness, community involvement, rewards and recognition, performance management and a variety of other activities. Their position understands and aligns business operations and Human Resources as he/she executes their role to exceed customer expectations.

JOB FUNCTIONS: Job functions include, but are not limited to the following.

  • Manages the talent acquisition process, collaborates with managers to understand skills and competencies required for openings.
  • Provides support and guidance when complex, specialized, and sensitive employee questions and issues arise; may be required to investigate allegations of wrong-doing and administer terminations.
  • Analyzes trends in compensation and benefits; researches and proposes competitive base and incentive pay programs to ensure the organization attracts and retains key talent.
  • Leverages companywide learning and development programs to enhance employee skills.
  • Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
  • May be required to negotiate labor contracts in unionized facilities.  
  • Maintains contemporary knowledge of Corporate Strategy and HR trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and HRIS to enhance the overall employee experience.
  • Oversee and manage the career development planning, succession plans and execution for direct reports and all top performing employees in the facility.
  • Investigate employee relation issues such as employee grievances, provide labor relations guidance and work through problem resolution to recommend appropriate actions.
  • Oversee the areas of employment, affirmative action, employee benefits, compensation, performance appraisal programs, personnel record keeping, unemployment claims and employee relations, training, and HRIS for the operating location.
  • Manages the Collective Bargaining Agreement and Labor Relations including contract administration responsibilities: Partnering with the plant’s leadership teams to negotiate the Collective Bargaining Agreements; facilitating a partnership with the local Union Committees and local Business Agents.
  • Lead and/or participate on various project teams, which may include local, divisional, and corporate teams.
  • Up to 25% travel.
  • Other duties as assigned.

SCHEDULE DEMANDS:

  • General schedule is day shift M-F assignment; however, employee must be willing to work alternate schedules occasionally; that may include early mornings, nights, and/or weekends.
  • Overnight travel to include flying, driving, riding or by rail.
  • Must be able to respond to issues on all shifts.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Sitting or standing for extended periods of time up to 8-hours.
  • Occasional lifting up to 10 pounds – office supplies, binders
  • Reading of computer screen or other electronic devices.
  • Use of various office hand and electrical tools or equipment such as staplers and paper punch.
  • Ability to be out on the production areas.

Required Skills

EDUCATION / KNOWLEDGE:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Masters preferred, in related field or compensatory closely related work experience required in lieu of degree.
  • PHR or SPHR certification preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Labor Relations and NLRB regulations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of federal and state employment laws and other government compliance regulations.

  • Ability to be responsive and persuasive at all levels of the organization.
  • High level of organizational and learning agility.
  • Effective interpersonal and analytical skills.
  • Ability to coach employees and management through complex issues and make recommendations that are consistent with policies, procedures and regulatory law.
  • Sense of urgency and ability to set and manage priorities.
  • Ability to maintain composure during emergency situations.
