Utility Worker  (Catcher) Job Summary Below:

The Utility Worker performs various job duties within the entire plant. They are responsible for supporting the various departments to meet customer specifications and production schedule. They will provide several services that are listed below. 

Primary Responsibilities are, but not limited to the following: 

  • Feeding – feeds carton blanks into folder/gluer
  • Catcher – places finished cartons into corrugated for final packing
    • This may include hand packing of unglued cartons, as needed
  • Gluer set-up – aids in the set up of by preparing corrugated, labels, material staging, etc., when in gluing department
    • This may be to include creating and printing of case labels
  • Stripping – safely strips die cut sheets down to individual carton blanks for final gluing
  • Material Handling – may be required to move product loads in various departments for job staging
  • Consults with supervisor to determine appropriate recommendations and remedies for questionable products
  • Performs fast paced duties to ensure machines are properly operational
  • Performs machine checks to watch for jams
    • Will help clear jams as required
  • Assists operators with various tasks, including clean-up
  • Reports unsafe conditions to the operator or management
  • Facilities cleaning – required to participate in regular site housekeeping to ensure clean and safe work environment
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned

Education/Experience:

  • High School Diploma preferred or equivalent

Language Skills 

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals 

Mathematical Skills 

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure. 

Reasoning Ability 

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written and oral form.

    • Must be able to work any shift.
    • Must be able to work overtime, as required.
    • Must be able to perform the job in the physical plant location.

    • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to move in a pushing and pulling motion when helping change loads; frequently required to climb on and off the press platform; continuously required to work above ground on top of the press; frequently required to bend, crouch, stoop, kneel, and twist. Frequently required to use eye, hand and foot coordination when making load change. Hand coordination is required of both hands for simple grasping.
    • The employee is frequently required to lift under 10 pounds and up to between 40-45 pounds.
    • Frequent/strenuous physical effort (lifting, moving heavy objects, etc.) required.
    • Must be able to push, pull, and carry up to 45 pounds.

    • While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts. The employee is regularly exposed to dust, fumes, vibration, toxic conditions, powder spray, heat, cold, and potential work hazards from the dryers.
    • The noise level in the work environment is loud.
    • Personal Protective Equipment is required. This includes steel toe shoes, safety glasses, ear protections, and gloves.  Other PPE may be required for specific tasks.
